| We
welcome you to Sonora and Barretta Gardens Inn.
We are Swedish (Astrid) and American (Daniel) and have lived in
Sweden, Australia, and in California. We chose Sonora as our home
because every time we visited from the Bay Area, we found something
new and exciting to do, from wine tasting, golfing, antique hunting,
frog jumping, music festivals, gold panning, swimming, skiing, fishing
or hiking in Yosemite National Park. We know you will enjoy the
gold country as much as we do. |
|
And we are sure that our guests from Europe and those from the
United States will enjoy the opportunity to meet one another and
share experiences. We serve a gourmet breakfast in our formal
dining room or on our screened porch (overlooking our terraced
gardens) at 9:00 a.m. (If you need to leave earlier, we can make
special arrangements). We also serve afternoon refreshments in
our main parlor, giving you the chance to meet with others or
simply relax after a day of activities.
We look forward to your visit and will welcome you in Swedish,
German, French, Italian or in English.
Fondly,
Astrid & Daniel Stone |

Breakfast
served outdoors in summer.
|

Breakfast delivered to room upon
request.
|
| A
sit down breakfast is prepared by Daniel who believes in hearty,
healthy, sustainable fare. Starting with tropical juices and fresh
fruits in season, followed by poached eggs on bread, organic Aidell
sausage links and grated Yukon gold potato patties with breads is
just but one example of his delicious breakfasts. |
|
Take a tour of the gardens. The cactus garden was Daniel’s
first project and only took a few days. And then he wanted to
add a few steps outside the front porch. Oh well, this project
has now grown to encompass four retaining walls, two new patios,
a barbeque area, a fountain, fish pond and a lower level garden
area - still under construction. It is not clear if Daniel will
run out of ideas before we run out of space!

Barretta
Gardens Inn was originally built in 1903. This is the oldest picture
of the house we have, before the road was paved and before the
garage was added.
The
house was built by a contractor whose nephew Superintendent of
Standard Lumber Company. He bought the land from the lumber company
and built his house above the lumber yard.
